Such dead flowers are often found in high temperatures. | | 1
When a flower is pollinated, a pollen tube grows and arrives at an ovule in an ovary in the basal part of a pistil. Finally, fertilization (conjugation of an egg cell in an ovule and a sperm nucleus from a pollen) occurs there.
When a flower withers up, it means that fertilization of the flower is complete. 2
The appearance 2 to 3 days after fertilization.
 3
You can see that the fertilized ovary grows and swells out for 1 week.
 4
At about 2 weeks after fertilization, the ovary has grown very large.
We call this a fruit.

 | <-- Side view of the ovary 2 to 3 days after fertilization.
Judging from its outside, we can see that the ovary seems almost unchanged from the way it was before fertilization. |
