Between the time when the bent hypocotyl (axis) grows upright and the time two closely folded cotyledons open into a horizontal position, about half of a day passes.   
On a warm day when the weather is particularly fine, the cotyledons open up faster, in less than half a day.  
Watch for this every day with great care.  
You're more likely to see this when you sow many seeds at a time. |

You can see a leaf bud between the cotyledons for 2 weeks.  
If you sow seeds at several different times, you can see germination many times.
